Wild Food Heaven and Star Gazing at Wales’ Finest Posted on 24/12/2008
It is easy to see why Ynyshir Hall was named as the best country house hotel in the UK and Ireland in 2008. Hidden away in 14 acres of glorious gardens, Ynyshir Hall offers all food lovers the perfect destination to indulge in some of the best food around. Award winning head chef Shane Hughes and his team have created a Wild Food experience like no other and guests are invited to join him gathering these Wild Foods. After all that hunting unwind by star gazing looking out to the night sky through a telescope.
Within the grounds at Ynyshir Hall, the kitchen garden produces herbs, asparagus, salads, soft fruit and baby vegetables. The team also gather mushrooms, wild garlic and wild wood sorrel from the nearby woodlands. From the surrounding beach at Ynyslas wild samphire is gathered. All these are teamed with fresh fish from the Sea which is a stone’s throw away, salt marsh lamb from the surrounding estuary and farm bred organic beef, duck, chicken and pork. The lobster, caught close by is also some of the finest in the UK.
Ynyshir Hall has the good fortune to share its Dovey estuary location with one of Britain's finest bird reserves, the RSPB Ynys-hir Nature Reserve. The walk to the estuary from the hotel is a magical ramble. The Dovey estuary is also the only Welsh Biosphere Reserve.
