Ynyshir has always been renowned for its wine list, which has been a passion of Rob’s over the last 20 years . Now that he has decided to concentrate on his art, he has handed over the gauntlet to Gianluca.
In the short time we have known Gianluca, we have realised that he never does anything half-heartedly ! And the wine list has been no exception.
He has burnt the midnight oil many an evening, and done a wonderful job re structuring and enhancing the list with many informative touches.
He also decided to re organise the Cellar, which I assumed meant moving a few bottles!! But I should have known better, especially when I heard the sound of sledge hammers,-- the mighty atom strikes again, and now we have a completely new cellar, with much better use of space. I’m sure he will be very keen to show off his handy-work to everyone, and give you a tour!
He has also built up our relationship with Laurent Perrier, who with Bibendum have helped us install a new Verre du Vin system. So now we can expand still further our wines served by the glass, and we can serve Laurent Perrier Rose and their wonderful Grand Siecle Champagnes by the glass too! We are launching this system on the Valentine’s weekend, and celebrating by giving all our guests a glass of the Grand Siecle Champagne.
We have offered ‘taste wines’ to accompany our tasting menus for several years, and they have always proved very popular, and Gianluca intends to develop this further. And we are holding more ‘Gourmet & wine’ events with all our special wine merchants this year.
